Documents from Fritz and Augusta Viering's Courtship and Marriage

Augusta's letter of acceptance of Fritz' proposal of marriage is to the left. They married in the Kuelter Kirche, above, on the 13th of March 1937; the "church wedding" was to have been on the 6th, but Fritz fell ill and the ceremony was delayed. In Germany, as in many European countries, most married couples have two weddings--a "government wedding" (such as by a justice of the peace) and a "church wedding" officiated by clergy. The below photo, with Augusta and Fritz standing in the center of the back row, and Augusta's family, was taken during the "government wedding" on the 5th of March 1937.
