Behind Barbed Wire: Midwest POWs in Nazi Germany Worksheet

 

Directions:  Your class is now a group of Red Cross officials visiting different POW camps, trying to figure out what the conditions in the POW camps are like.  Your job is to answer the following questions as they relate to your topic (Health, Food and Supplies, Death Marches, Treatment of Prisoners or Escape Attempts).  Make sure to include where you get information (from which website did you find the information?).  After you have finished with the questions, get together with your small groups and try to find any similarities or differences between the camps.  Later you will be reporting back to the other Red Cross officials about your specific topic.

 

 

1)      What topic are you researching (Health, Food and Supplies, Death Marches, Treatment or Escape Attempts)?

 

 

2)      What POW Camp are you researching?

 

 

3) What are the conditions of the prisoners concerning your topic?  (Only answer the question that is related to your topic: Do the prisoners have enough food? What type of food are they given?  Are they given enough medical supplies? Are the prisoners in good health?  Are the prisoners treated fairly?  Are the prisoners treated like slave labor? If not, what way are they treated? How many escape attempts occurred?  What happened to people who tried to escape?  What were Death Marches?  Why did they occur?  What happened to POWs during Death Marches?
