TRACES' BUS-eums have traveled to more than 1,500 communities in twelve Midwest states, since March 2004. (See maps, below.) More than 115,000 individuals have toured the first two exhibits (Behind Barbed Wire: Midwest POWs in Nazi Germany and VANISHED: German-American Civilian Internees, 1941-48); a third exhibit was launched in fall 2008. Tens of millions have learned of these stories through related TV/radio and newspaper features, and from family or friends who have seen the exhibits; among hundreds of local newpapers, stories about TRACES' work have appeared on the front page of the Chicago Tribune, in section A of the New York Times, on CCN, etc.
